My husband and I have been taking ballroom dancing lessons for several years now. We have been studying at Arthur Murray. It's pricey, but the lessons are great, and the instructors are a blast.

We've learned a lot and have been able to use it all over, at clubs, at parties, and in competitions. It's kind of fun having your friends ask to see you dance. I took ballet and tap as a child and have never really ever stopped dancing, although I stopped anything close to a formal style.

We've been learning a bunch of different dances:
Swing - a slower version of Lindy which is ultra-popular in the Washington DC metro area
West Coast Swing - a slower more sultry swing style, lots of fun and great for some of the techno/alternative songs out these days.
Waltz - 1-2-3 1-2-3 pretty much what you would expect, but there is so much to learn stylistically. The steps can be pretty hard too.
Viennese Waltz - waltz on speed - very fast, very tricky
Fox Trot - lots of fun to get up and dance to the oldies by Frank Sinatra, great for the lounge lizard
Rumba - Latin, slow, pretty
Samba - Latin waltz, or more appropriately latin Viennese waltz, super fast, super fun
Mambo - Latin, faster, fun to do, just watch West Side Story
Tango - Arnold does it you can to. Latin, slow sleezy, lots of fun
Cha Cha - Oh yeah! from Ferris Bueller's Day Off is the best cha cha known to man - fast, latin, flirty
Bolero - slow, sexy, like rumba only more so
Quick Step - like Fox trot on speed, very fun, very fast
